Tune In To The Universe Inside You

Yoga_meditation.png

First, there is no wrong way to do it. Second, OMG, do you have any idea how good it is for you!? There are many ways to tune in, but let’s get straight to the point. During this time of fear and uncertainty, many of us are searching for inner peace. Well, there is an answer - tuning into the vast universe inside of yourself, through the art of meditation.

You may have heard of meditation before, because there are many proponents of it all over the Internet these days. Most famously, Oprah has joined with Deepak Chopra to inspire people to experience it. What I’d like to offer here is a reason for you to feel comfortable and safe in opening up to the possibilities that practicing meditation offers. There is no hype here and nothing for sale, just the possibility of changing your relationship with your innermost self.

Let’s start with bare bones basics. Meditation, the practice of quiet reflection, is good for you even if you are not “good” at it. And it is good for you even if you do it and you don’t “feel” anything. The proof of this is simple and there is no need for any corroboration from any experts. Simply sit and be quiet for two minutes, while paying attention to your breathing. Try it. Now. I’ll wait.

See, if nothing else, in those two minutes, you connected to your body in a simple and calm way. Maybe you even noticed that your body is breathing without you having to do a single thing!? What is going on here?! Are you just a little curious about what is causing you to breath, literally, what is breathing you, when you are doing nothing!? Well, to put it in the language of the day, the breath is everything

What is most important for us to realize here, is that breathing operates without your control! Your mind can only affect your breathing for a very short period of time. Even if your mind attempted to stop you from breathing, it could only achieve that for around 60 seconds, tops. Do NOT try this! Instead, just look into the wonder of what simply watching that breathing does for you. You will undoubtedly find that It is very difficult to think for long stretches of time when you are curiously watching your breath come in and out of your body. And when you stop thinking, you may notice something really interesting. There is something else, a presence, an awareness, that is witnessing what is going on with you, and it knows that your mind is not as active as it was just minutes ago. What is this presence and what is its purpose? What else is it aware of? What else can it show you?

Well, at this unprecedented time in our world, you have a lot of time to find your own answers to these questions. I’ll give you a big hint though. You are more than your mind thinks you are. Discovering this for yourself is the essence of what meditation is.

To be continued...

Wishing you love and peace,

Namaste,
